Online Boating Safety Course

Successful customization in programming and course creation considering complex amount of variables involved, strict state and NASBLA regulations compliant. NASBLA is in review phase and we are set to launch in spring 2020. In simultaneous efforts of creating and validating the new course, the previous legacy course was cleaned of outdated program errors and made functional and current, with custom programming to streamline data with current client LMS.

Challenge

What steps does one take to gain their boating license? Take this free online course and gain your certificate upon completion. Approved by NASBLA organization. Boat U.S. Foundation offers a free online boating safety course that was in need of updating the style, and information. Functions such as user tracking and profile data non-existent. Users would bombard office with calls for requests of certifications, course completions, membership cards, etc: all items that could benefit from full automation. Specific individual state requirements in the form of information and quiz questions must be met as well, pending of course what state the user selects. Additional attention needed to updating outdated materials.

Solution

The strategy was based off a storytelling theme. The course was divided up into six parts. Introduction, followed by five story-based courses that gave valuable safety and operating lessons. Each course was followed by a series of non-measured quiz questions. Each quiz question also offered more information in an expandable window function. Allowing for downloadable pdf documents, and search, glossary functionality. Additional updates include UI/UX and design elements. We incorporated video and fun learning interactivity as well as content enriched gaming elements. The entire course is not complete until a final test is administered. Upon pass, user will gain membership card and certification document.
